Where I Add Value

Is Your Organization Struggling With...

  • "Choose Your Own Adventure." Everyone is doing their best, but sometimes it feels like everyone is doing their own thing.
  • "Can I do A?" or "Do you do B?" or "Who does X?" or "Where can I find Y?" You keep getting the same questions over and over again, there is uncertainty about what are/are not legitimate exceptions, or you team keeps having the same conversations trying to figure out how a process "should" operate?
  • Training by osmosis or "Tribal Knowledge" that walks out the door when employees or consultants leave the team.
  • Feedback that team members don't know what's going on within organization or feel connected to the company's overall vision and objectives.

This could be due to...

  • Policies being created without thinking ahead to how the team will manage the policy "in real life."
  • Lack of alignment, awareness and consistency in how processes are executed and applied.
  • Lack of alignment in who is responsible, accountable, consulted and informed.
  • Lack of alignment on acceptable exceptions (so everything becomes managed by exception).
  • Lack of onboarding and training resources.
  • Processes are not documented…or process documentation has not been maintained and is out-of-date.
  • Processes are not documented in an easy-to-consume manner - ie. One source of truth, micro-learning and self-serve content.
  • Lack of communications and change management strategies.

Why is this a problem...and why should you care?

  • The issues above lead to inefficiencies, and weak internal and spend controls. 
  • Time wasted = lost productivity, spend leakage and lost profitability.
  • This is especially true in the Source-to-Pay cycle, where your organization could be missing out on payment discounts, unknowingly overspending with a Supplier, damaging a Supplier relationship, or even investing in a Supplier relationship that does not align with your company's risk appetite.
  • Reduced employee engagement. Time spent spinning wheels on non-business-critical issues, when your team could be spending time solving problems, innovating and adding value.

  • Creating and executing documentation strategies that makes it simple to maintain existing documentation.
  • Developing change management and communications strategies so team members know what's happening, when and why.
  • Facilitating the creation or enhancement of performance metrics, compliance monitoring and reporting processes, Savings Tracking and Value Creation for Strategic Sourcing teams.
  • Building a bridge between Finance, Procurement, IT and other key stakeholders (such as HR, Legal, Cyber Security, Privacy, Internal Audit, etc.)

For a Canadian Oil and Gas exploration and production company, conducted an internal audit evaluating the company's end-to-end RFP processes.

Worked with key stakeholders in the Procurement organization to understand current state processes to initiate, execute and evaluate RFPs, analyzed      gaps between current state and industry best practices, and provided  recommendations for improvement to senior leadership.

For one of Canada's largest integrated Energy companies, acted as Project Manager for a Procure-to-Pay process      alignment across the North American, International and Offshore E&P      Business Units. This included understanding current process and technology gaps to the centralized process at head office and presenting a gap closure plan which was successfully adopted by senior leadership.

For one of Canada's largest Telecommunications providers, reduced volume of internal controls by identifying duplicate and redundant non-key controls, in tandem with creating new controls required for an Oracle Cloud implementation. Resulted in a 

10% reduction in the volume of internal controls in Year One of the project.

  For one of Canada's largest Telecommunications providers, implemented a Supplier Risk Management program for Strategic Sourcing organization, which oversaw $2.5 billion in annual spend across over 7,500 suppliers. This included implementing the people, processes and technology required to support the program, from the development of an internal risk assessment and mitigation reporting tool, implementation of two external market intelligence tools, process documentation, training to end users and quarterly reporting to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.

For one of the world's largest fertilizer producers, restructured the Supplier Audit program by transitioning to a risk-based audit approach, re-developing and implementing internal processes and templates, and collaborating with business unit Legal teams to update contract language to strengthen the company's audit rights. These changes resulted in a 48% increase in actual recoveries in Year One of the program and exceeded recoveries targets by 80% in Year Two.
